On Saturday, January 13th, 2018, Downtown Orlando hosted a parade in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The parade was held to celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. King. The AFJROTC detachment FL-802 from West Orange High School participated in this event. One of the clubs that participated were armed drill. The armed drill team was able to march in this parade with their rifles and sabres, showing off everything that they have been working on at the various practices held throughout the week. This team practices Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays after school. There is no class for this drill team and it is not required of any cadet to participate. Having a chance to perform in front of a large audience really helped the drill team and it simply shows how dedicated our cadets are to making the team the best they can be. In addition to giving our team a chance to show their skill, this parade gave our unit an opportunity to impact younger children and hopefully make them want to join JROTC when they are old enough.
