What our veterans face overseas can be a bit much. Who knows what horrors they witnessed in combat? The mental toll war can take on someone is more than some people can comprehend. On average, twenty-two veterans will commit suicide per day. From the moment you get out of bed until the moment you are dozing off back to sleep, twenty-two more veterans would be dead. Challenge 22 is an annual local event held in downtown Winter Garden to raise awareness over this concerning statistic. It is an annual 2.2 mile walk to show that our community cares about our veterans and how they suffer. On the 14th of November, our cadets participated in the event to do our part in raising awareness for this cause.
We at FL-802 share a deep concern over the environment, and our cadets offered their time at the Oakland Nature Preserve to help make a difference. The Nature Preserve was in desperate need to have over a thousand bushels of wiregrass planted in order to promote healthy bushfires that the local ecosystem relies upon. Our unit sent over cadets on both the 31st of October and 7th of November to assist the Preserve in undertaking this effort. Pictured are cadets working tirelessly to plant the wiregrass.
