What is AFJROTC about?
Welcome to Air Force JROTC, unit FL-802. The mission of AFJROTC is to "Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community." In no way is AFJROTC a recruiting tool for the USAF and there is no obligation for cadets to join the military after high school. AFJROTC is a citizenship training program that is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, and instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. The program achieves this through classroom education in aerospace fundamentals and hands on learning opportunities in a number of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities. The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of “integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.” AFJROTC has a huge positive impact on cadets, schools, communities, and our nation.

BCT (Basic Cadet Training)
- What is BCT?
- Basic Cadet Training is a weeklong course over the summer that introduces new cadets to the basic functions and structure of the unit. Cadets will learn how to march, how to wear their uniform, learn to work in teams, and memorize the command structure of the Air Force. They will also participate in group bonding events, games, and group physical training to increase morale of all cadets within the unit. The program provides new cadets to start the year with a higher rank and with ribbons if they keep up with the course.
- Is it a requirement for AFJROTC?
- No. BCT is completely optional but strongly recommended. Most cadets do not go through the program, though those who do start off the school year ahead of the curve and are often fast-tracked to leadership positions within the unit.
- Where is it?
- In the 900 building.
- In the 900 building.
- When is it?
- BCT will be held 24th of July through 28th of July. The course is a week long. Cadets will be there from Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Who can attend?
- Any first year cadet.
- Why should a new cadet attend?
- During the school year, most cadets only spend about an hour a day in AFJROTC. As such, it takes a little while for new cadets to get settled in and to arrive at a place where they can begin to really engage with the rest of the unit. Going to BCT removes the adjustment gap and enables new cadets to flow smoothly into the school year as a fully functioning member of the unit.

Athletic Clearance
- What?
- As of last year, you have to be athletically cleared to participate in certain activities in the course.
- Why?
- If you have not been cleared, you will not be able to participate in the PT each Friday as that is part of your grade in the course. This could ultimately lower your grade and hinder you from quarterly promotions and from being awarded the Outstanding Flight Ribbon.
- Where?
- In the files and the website below, you can find where to start this process and instructions to continue.
